A National Landmark Honoring All 3,500+ Recipients Along America’s Medal of Honor Highway
The Medal of Honor Murals Project is a national effort to honor America’s highest military heroes through permanent, hand-painted monuments placed along the historic Medal of Honor Highway. These large-scale mural panels stand as enduring tributes—connecting rural communities, historic towns, and travelers across the country through a shared legacy of courage, sacrifice, and freedom.
U.S. Route 20 stretches coast to coast from Newport, Oregon, to Boston, Massachusetts, making it one of America’s great cross-country highways. Today, the entire length of U.S. 20 is officially designated the Medal of Honor Highway, spanning twelve states: Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts. Along this historic route, the Medal of Honor Murals will be installed in visible, publicly accessible locations—serving as permanent landmarks that educate, inspire, and honor.
These MoH Murals are just one of the missions of the Freedom Rock Foundation board and are hand-painted by Freedom Rock® Artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. Support this mission and our foundation by visiting:

We are beginning in Sioux City, Iowa — hometown of Medal of Honor recipient Bud Day — and continue across 300 miles of Highway 20, honoring Iowa’s heroes and adding recipients from states beyond the highway’s path.
In total, Iowa has at least 54 Medal of Honor recipients, including 29 from the Civil War alone, with many distinguished heroes spanning conflicts from the late 19th century through modern wars.
This is not simply an art project.
It is a national remembrance effort.
